Canada’s reported destruction of thousands of WWII-era Browning-Inglis No. 2 Mk1* pistols highlights the growing tension between surplus policy and historical preservation. Produced in Toronto during World War II with assistance from FN Herstal’s exiled staff—including co-designer Dieudonné Saive—these Hi-Powers were more than sidearms; they were artifacts of Allied cooperation and resistance against tyranny.

As a gun dealer it takes a lot for something to arrive and that gets me excited.  Most of the guns that get the public excited are ho-hum to me. Things that excite me must be rare or unusual.

Today, it is coveted collectors’ piece that showcases the improvements in Japanese arms manufacturing.  This weapon would expand an Empire, and thrust the world into conflict.  The Type 38 rifle is a testament to a different time and the Greatest Generation.  We are fortunate enough to have this rifle and many other historical time capsules come through our shop here at 2 If By Sea Tactical

When it comes to superior gun designs John Moses Browning is considered the best of the best. He invented more calibers, rifles, shotguns, and pistols than anyone else.  His designs have endured the test of time and many are still in major production to this day.

Every town seems to have a small antique store. Inside is a museum of wonders that ties us to our past. In the firearm industry this is also true. Most gun stores have a selection of historical firearms on hand. To borrow from Rick Harrison, from History Channel’s “Pawn Stars”, “You just never know what will walk through that door”. To that point recently at 2 If By Sea Tactical had a FEG Mod P37 Pistol from 1941 come through our shop.

Guns like the Walther P38 are one of those unique time capsules of history that come through our shop.  A firearm that served on side of oppression during Hitler’s reign, and freedom during the Cold War.  It is a story of conflict and redemption.
