Minnesota-Based Federal Premium Lands Massive $77.4 Million FBI Ammunition Contract

Kinetic Group which owns Speer, Federal, Remington, and CCI Ammunition
Kinetic Group which owns Speer, Federal, Remington, and CCI Ammunition was selected by the FBI for a massive contract.

In a major win for American manufacturing, and especially for Minnesota's firearms industry, the FBI has awarded a massive $77.4 million ammunition contract to Federal Premium and Remington Ammunition. Both are a part of The Kinetic Group family of companies.

The contract represents one of the largest law enforcement ammunition awards in The Kinetic Group's history. It also reinforces something many shooters have known for decades, some of the finest ammunition in the world is being built right here in America.

For those of us in Minnesota, there is an extra reason to take pride in this announcement. Federal Premium is headquartered in Anoka, Minnesota and has been producing world-class ammunition in the North Star State since 1922.

For over a century, Minnesota workers have helped build the ammunition trusted by hunters, competitive shooters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, and everyday gun owners across the country. Now that same Minnesota-made ammunition will be helping support one of the largest federal law enforcement agencies in America.

A Complete Sweep of the Contract

What makes this contract especially impressive is that The Kinetic Group was selected in all four categories requested by the FBI. Federal Premium will provide:

  • Duty ammunition

  • Reduced-lead training ammunition

  • Non-jacketed frangible ammunition

Meanwhile, Remington Ammunition, utilizing additional technology from HEVI, secured the fourth category with a jacketed frangible load. In other words, the FBI did not simply select one Federal or Remington product, they selected The Kinetic Group across the board. That speaks volumes about the confidence federal evaluators have in the performance, consistency, and reliability of these products.

The Loads Selected by the FBI

The FBI selected Federal Premium's highly respected 64-grain Tactical Bonded load for duty use. That particular round has earned a strong reputation throughout law enforcement circles because of its reliable expansion, barrier performance, and terminal effectiveness.

For training purposes, the FBI selected Federal's 64-grain Modified Jacketed Soft Point reduced-lead load. The agency also chose Federal's 45-grain BallistiClean RHT ammunition in the non-jacketed frangible category. Remington's contribution comes in the form of a 55-grain Disintegrator Lead-Free frangible round featuring HEVI's advanced powder-metal core technology.

These selections highlight how much modern ammunition technology has evolved over the last several decades. Today's law enforcement ammunition is engineered with incredible precision, balancing penetration, expansion, reliability, accuracy, environmental concerns, and officer safety.

Minnesota's Long History of Ammunition Manufacturing

For Minnesotans, this announcement serves as another reminder of the important role our state plays within the American firearms industry. Federal Premium's Anoka facility has become one of the most respected ammunition manufacturing operations in the world.

Generations of Minnesota workers have helped produce ammunition trusted by everyone from deer hunters in the woods of northern Minnesota to military personnel deployed around the globe. The company has become known for innovations including:

  • Premium hunting ammunition

  • Gold Medal Match ammunition

  • Law enforcement duty ammunition

  • Personal defense loads

  • Shotshell technology

  • Modern cartridge engineering

When shooters think of premium American ammunition, Federal is often one of the first names that comes to mind. That reputation was built right here in Minnesota.

The Military Connection Continues

The FBI contract follows another significant achievement for Federal earlier this year. In May, Federal Premium entered an agreement with the U.S. Army involving approximately 40 million Peak Alloy cartridge cases and the use of the company's patented case technology.

That deal further demonstrates the growing influence of American ammunition manufacturers in both military and law enforcement markets. It also highlights something often overlooked by the public.

The same companies producing ammunition for military and law enforcement agencies are often producing the ammunition sitting on the shelves of your local gun store. Innovation developed for professional users frequently finds its way into commercial products available to everyday shooters. Everyone benefits from those advancements.

Why This Matters

Beyond the dollar amount, contracts like this represent confidence. Federal agencies do not hand out contracts worth tens of millions of dollars lightly. Extensive testing, evaluation, and performance standards must be met before products are selected.

For Federal Premium and Remington, earning all four categories demonstrates that American ammunition manufacturing remains among the best in the world. For Minnesota, it is another reminder that our state continues playing a critical role in the firearms industry.

For us gun owners, hunters, and shooters who already trust Federal ammunition, this contract serves as another endorsement of a company that has spent more than a century building its reputation one cartridge at a time.

Final Thoughts

In an era where many manufacturing jobs have moved overseas, it is encouraging to see American companies continuing to lead in innovation and production. It is even more encouraging when one of those companies calls Minnesota home.

Federal Premium's $77.4 million FBI contract represents a major achievement not only for The Kinetic Group, but also for the thousands of hardworking Americans. For Minnesota shooters, it is a point of pride knowing that one of the most trusted names in ammunition continues to operate right here in our backyard.
