Staff Spotlight: Meet Mitch, Busy Outdoors and at Shooting Ranges in Minnesota

At 2 If By Sea Tactical, there is a whole community that shares a passion for firearms, history, and the shooting ranges in Minnesota. We were recently able to sit down and chat with another staff member to discuss what he loves about the store, New Prague, and the great Minnesota outdoors.

Meet Mitch --

Work at the Shooting Range is a Family Affair

Mitch is a newer staff member, but he's hardly new to firearms or New Prague. And he enjoys bringing that experience to customers.

"I've been around guns for so long, and I have so many... all these different types, and I've learned a lot [...] so it's fun when someone comes in and I ask, 'Well, what are you interested in? Do you want a house defense gun or do you want a concealed carry gun?' And it's just fun walking them through the steps of deciding what would cater best to them."

He considers the owners, Creed and Austin, family friends, and his brother also works at the store. But despite the brothers' shared interest, he didn't inherit his interest in firearms from his parents. Instead, video games inspired an enjoyment of shooting sports.

Hobby and Career Meet in Minnesota

Mitch's youthful interest in firearms also helped guide him into a career in the military, now serving in the Air National Guard.

"It's really interesting seeing how they progress through time to become more complicated and more advanced, and the styles change. So when I was finally old enough to join the military, I did."

His work keeps him busy, but he still makes time to help with sales at 2 If By Sea Tactical. Why? Because the community makes it worth it. Whether a customers comes in for a first gun for home protection or guidance on sporting clays, someone at 2 If By Sea can point them in the right direction.

"It's awesome. Everyone here is an enthusiast one way or another about firearms. Everyone just kind of has their own niche. ... Austin kind of likes the old guns, Gary's really into Smith & Wesson, and I like the more modern stuff -- AR-15s and pistols, and suppressors," Mitch explains.

What to See Other than Shooting Ranges When Visiting New Prague

When he's not working or enjoying shooting sports at the range, Mitch enjoys the great outdoors in Minnesota.

He and his brothers are all pilots, so they try to take advantage of any free time to take a plane out. They also enjoy Prior Lake and Lake Marion in Lakeville. "I like being on the water. [...] If you've ever been to Lake Marion in the last couple of years, the beach is awesome. They've done great work with the beach. They put in a little sandbar, and there's a park and tennis courts." It comes highly recommended.

To unwind in town, he recommends a few favorites: 1319 Woodfire Tavern, the Local 105, and the Hill (Union Hill Bar & Grill).

Historic Location Brings Color to New Prague's Addition to the Shooting Ranges in Minnesota

It's worth checking out some of the local historic landmarks when coming to New Prague, too. New Prague has several memorable churches, parks, and a beautiful downtown. 2 If By Sea Tactical itself is located in the Historic Mill and creates a new hotspot for all things firearms and shooting (including virtual reality and archery, soon).

But that's not all there is in New Prague history. Mitch shares an item of bizarre history: "I took a class on this town's history in high school. [...] There was a doctor, and his house was on Main Street, right east of us. ... And he would do autopsies on corpses and just bury them in his backyard, and in the streets before it was all pavement." He promises there are no bodies under 2 If By Sea Tactical.
