URGENT: West Virginia’s Machine Gun Bill Has “Disappeared” — Immediate Action Needed

This is not good news. Despite a live vote showing that SB 1071 passed the Judiciary Committee with overwhelming majority support, the bill has now mysteriously failed to arrive in the Finance Committee. In plain terms — it’s stalled.
At this stage, delay can be just another way to kill a bill without going on record. At 2 If By Sea Tactical, we believe transparency matters. If a bill has the votes, it deserves a clear path forward — not procedural limbo.
What’s at Stake
SB 1071 would establish a lawful mechanism for West Virginia to facilitate machine gun transfers under existing federal exemptions. As we’ve previously covered, this legislation represents one of the boldest state-level challenges to the Hughes Amendment framework in decades. The bill already cleared Judiciary with strong support. Now it appears to be stuck behind closed doors.
The Immediate Path Forward

At this point, supporters believe the only way to move SB 1071 is for Senate President Randy Smith to bring it to an immediate floor vote. If you live in West Virginia, you need to act now.
📞 Call Senate President Randy Smith at (304) 357-7995
Respectfully demand that SB 1071 be brought to the floor for a vote immediately. Time is limited. Legislative calendars close fast.
Then Contact Your Own Senator
After making that call, contact your own State Senator and urge them to:
Apply pressure to Senate leadership
Support SB 1071 publicly
Demand transparency in the process
If this bill has the support leadership claims it lacks, let that be proven on the floor — not buried in committee shuffle.
The Political Reality
According to polling cited by supporters of the bill:
96% of West Virginia gun owners say they would be more likely to support a legislator who backs SB 1071
93% say they would be less likely to support a legislator who works to kill it
Lawmakers should understand that this issue matters deeply to their constituents.
Why This Moment Matters
Procedural maneuvering is one of the most common ways controversial legislation dies quietly. No vote. No record. No accountability. If SB 1071 is allowed to vanish after passing committee, it sends a message that even majority-backed pro-Second Amendment bills can be sidelined behind the scenes.
West Virginia has an opportunity to lead nationally in restoring access to constitutionally protected arms. However, leadership only happens if the bill actually reaches the floor.
All Hands on Deck
If you are a West Virginia resident, make the call. Be sure to contact your Senator and demand a recorded vote. Respectfully. Firmly. Immediately. This may be the final window to move SB 1071 forward. At 2 If By Sea Tactical, we will continue monitoring developments. We are constantly keeping tabs on things not just here in Minnesota, but national. What happens in West Virginia does not stay in West Virginia — it shapes the national Second Amendment landscape. Stay engaged. Stay vocal. And don’t let your rights be quietly sidelined.
