Wyoming Pushes Forward on Pro-2A Agenda — A Sharp Contrast to Blue-State Crackdowns

Over the past four legislative sessions, Gun Owners of America (GOA) has worked alongside strong Second Amendment lawmakers to transform Wyoming into one of the most pro-gun states in the country. The results are hard to ignore.

Wyoming now has one of the nation’s strongest Second Amendment Protection Acts, limiting local cooperation with unconstitutional federal gun control measures. The state has also enacted firm preemption laws preventing cities and counties from creating their own patchwork of gun restrictions. After passing the measure two consecutive years—only to see it vetoed in 2024—lawmakers successfully repealed most “gun-free zones” in government buildings and schools in 2025.

Wyoming now stands near the top when it comes to protecting the right to keep and bear arms. But lawmakers aren’t done yet.

What’s on the 2026 Pro-2A Agenda

This session, GOA and pro-Second Amendment legislators are backing at least five key bills designed to strengthen and expand Wyoming’s existing protections:

  • Enhancing the Second Amendment Protection Act

  • Protecting financial privacy for firearm and ammunition purchases

  • Lowering the concealed carry permit age to 18

  • Strengthening protections under Wyoming’s Stand Your Ground law

  • Expanding safeguards for lawful self-defense

The legislature convenes February 9, and momentum is clearly on the side of gun owners.

Red-State Momentum vs. Blue-State Restrictions

Wyoming’s actions stand in sharp contrast to what we’re seeing in states like Virginia and New Mexico. In Virginia, lawmakers have proposed suppressor taxes and expanded gun restrictions. In New Mexico, sweeping semi-automatic bans and aggressive enforcement measures have targeted common firearms based on operating systems—not cosmetic features. The divide is growing wider.

Red states are strengthening constitutional carry, repealing gun-free zones, protecting financial privacy, and reinforcing self-defense laws. Blue states are layering on taxes, restrictions, and liability traps designed to discourage lawful ownership. For gun owners nationwide, the message is clear: elections and state legislatures matter.

Why This Matters in Minnesota

While Minnesota may not currently mirror Wyoming’s legislative environment, national trends influence local policy battles. What succeeds in one state becomes a template elsewhere—on both sides of the issue. That’s why staying informed and engaged is critical.
