Chicago Blames Glock — While Letting Criminals Walk

There are many examples popping up in America that showcase the modern gun control efforts. If you look at Chicago, you will see one of them. They are, like several other cities and states, deciding to not hold criminals accountable for their actions, but go after producers of items despite them being misused.
The City of Chicago has filed a lawsuit against Glock, blaming the company for crimes committed with illegally modified pistols. Their argument is criminals are using illegal “Glock switches” to convert pistols into machine guns and its Glock’s fault.
What makes this argument insane is that those conversion devices are already illegal under Federal and State law. They carry harsh sentences with Federal penalties being up to 10 years in prison. Legal civilian machine gun registration has been frozen since 1986.
What is more, Glock has never manufactured these devices. These devices were invented in 1987 in Venezuela and have never been endorsed by Glock. While Glock made
These types of lawsuits are what we here at 2 If By Sea Tactical highlight due to their insidious nature. The point of them is not about public safety, it is about using the legal system to enact gun control. Since anti-gun states are continually being shot down by courts across the country when they pass legislation, they are attempting to ramrod legislation through the court systems instead of the legislature.
It is about finding creative ways to circumvent the Second Amendment and it must be called out for what it is. The reality is the United States has an enforcement problem and not a law problem.
The Real Issue: Enforcement Failure
Let’s take a real-world example from a case out of Chicago. There is a 16-year-old with multiple gun arrests. One of the previously caught firearms was equipped with a switch. Instead of a lengthy prison sentence to keep such a criminal off the street, he was given probation.
His crimes did not end there; he was arrested at least twice as many in suspected gun cases and only given probation again. This person would later go on and use another firearm to commit a homicide.
There were multiple points where this could have been prevented by simply locking up the individual. Instead, we did not get a failure of law. What we got is a failure of enforcement due to negligent politicians in the name of personal politics.
What we are seeing here in we are seeing play out across the country in anti-gun states. Here in Minnesota we have seen this play out in Minneapolis, almost the exact same effect. A suspect is caught with a machine gun conversion device then released with little to no jail time. Later they are arrested again days later in connection with a shooting. Same story, same outcome.
Why Target Glock?
Because it is easier and helps drive a political narrative that certain politicians have. All while avoiding the real issue of holding criminals accountable. Those wanting to push disarmament will use any and all tools in their tool chest.
We will continue to see cities pursue lawsuits against manufacturers, bans on legal firearm models. All they will accomplish is restricting law-abiding citizens while criminals will continue to violate the law with little to no consequences.
This isn’t just about one firearm company. If these lawsuits were to succeed it will open the door to targeting the entire firearms industry. The natural outcome of this will be reduced access to firearms, higher costs to purchase them, and fewer legal options for law-abiding citizens.
Criminals, however, will continue doing what they are doing. They will see little to no effect and the cycle of violence will continue. Until we actually hold wrong doers accountable, there is no incentive for them to stop. Laws against machine guns already exist.
While we disagree with them here at 2 If By Sea Tactical, they are already in effect.
This means conversion devices already are illegal and it is a crime to own and acquire them. We also already have laws against violent offenders. What we do not have in these major cities is consistent enforcement. In many cases, enforcement is practically nonexistent.
Chicago, like everywhere else in the United States, isn’t lacking for laws. They, in fact, have more laws than most when it comes to gun ownership. However what they are lacking, is accountability.
Blaming Glock doesn’t stop crime. Ignoring repeat offenders doesn’t stop crime. Letting violent individuals walk, doesn’t stop crime. This cycle is one of politicians own creation. Until that changes, us law-abiding gun owners and the innocent, will continue to be victimized.
