In a twist that no one saw coming, the German Military is moving away from a German Firearms manufacturer for its no standard issue side arm. Ceska zbrojovka a.s. (CZ) a long time Czech firearms manufacturer announced that they will now be supplying the Bundeswehr (the German Army). The CZ P-10 C OR will now be redesignated as the P13 for the Bundeswehr.
This is a monumental shift for Germany. It has been using the Heckler & Koch P8 (which is a variant of the USP) as their standard issue sidearm. This is hard to express how monumental this shift is. While it is not the first time the German Military has utilized a foreign designed pistol (The Swiss designed Luger), they have always used sidearms manufactured in Germany.
The Mauser C-96 Bolo, to the Luger, to the P-38 (later redesignated the P1), and finally the H&K P8. This long legacy of firearms history is beyond impressive and features many firearm defining designs. CZ has finally broken that chain.

This will still keep the 9x19mm cartridge that has been a long mainstay in Germany since adopting the Luger in World War I. It is also the first striker fired pistol that Germany will have adopted joining the United States (Sig Sauer M17), Austria (Glock G17), France (Glock G17), and the Czech Republic (CZ P-10).
It will be interesting if CZ will be able to break into the rifle market for other European Militaries a priority for the company since acquiring Colt Manufacturing in the United States in May of 2021.
