When it comes to superior gun designs John Moses Browning is considered the best of the best. He invented more calibers, rifles, shotguns, and pistols than anyone else.  His designs have endured the test of time and many are still in major production to this day.

There is an old saying that there are only two truths in life, death & taxes.  This week I would add a third constant, government defending governmental power.  With the recent brief filed by the Department of Justice under Pam Bondi in Gun Owners of America’s (GOA) lawsuit to remove items form the National Firearms Act.  The DOJ and the Trump Administration as signaled that they are, at least in part, in favor of some gun control in the United States. 

The United States military has a long history of struggling with weapon procurement. The adopted weapon platforms of the United States usually fall within two categories. One, they are poor choices with serious flaws. Two, they are implemented well ahead of when they are ready. The Springfield Armory Model 1898 rifle falls into the former category.

Every town seems to have a small antique store. Inside is a museum of wonders that ties us to our past. In the firearm industry this is also true. Most gun stores have a selection of historical firearms on hand. To borrow from Rick Harrison, from History Channel’s “Pawn Stars”, “You just never know what will walk through that door”. The Founding Fathers understood what they were doing when they inserted the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.  They had just successfully led an armed rebellion over the largest and best trained military the World had ever seen to that point.  They understood the implications, and dangers that such a stance would mean.  However, they deemed the rewards and values of Freedom were greater than any risks.
