President Donald Trump (R) has an opportunity to correct his administration's stance on the Second Amendment within the DOJ.

Gun owners across America are paying close attention right now—and for good reason. The leadership at the Department of Justice has a direct impact on how aggressively federal agencies enforce gun laws, defend them in court, and shape the future of Second Amendment rights nationwide.

Why This Matters

Over the past few years, gun owners have watched as federal agencies—particularly the ATF—have expanded their reach through rulemaking rather than legislation. We have seen this in policies like the pistol brace rule and expanded interpretations of background check requirements.

These have raised serious concerns about executive overreach and the erosion of constitutional protections. We have seen that this administration has promised rollbacks haven’t fully materialized. We have seen key Second Amendment reviews and reforms remain incomplete. Federal agencies have continued to defend controversial regulations in court.

A Turning Point

The Trump Administration now has an opportunity to showcase their support for the Second Amendment. With a pro-2A Attorney General he or she could reevaluate and halt enforcement of controversial ATF rules. Settle ongoing Second Amendment lawsuits with meaningful protections.

Most importantly shift the DOJ’s legal stance on cases involving constitutional rights. Finally, they could rein in these unelected agencies that have expanded their authority. In short, this position plays a massive role in determining whether the Second Amendment is treated as a fundamental right—or a regulated privilege.
