Schumer Says “Shall Not Be Infringed.” Now Let’s See If He Means It.

Gun owners never thought they’d hear it—but Chuck Schumer recently declared that “the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Yes, that Chuck Schumer. The same Senate Majority Leader who has spent decades supporting “assault weapons” bans, magazine limits, expanded background checks, and nearly every major piece of federal gun control legislation in modern history. If he truly believes what he said, then now is the time to prove it.
A Narrow Window for Constitutional Carry Reciprocity
As Congress negotiates the next round of government funding—with Department of Homeland Security funding set to expire in just weeks—lawmakers on both sides are jockeying for concessions. Democrats are pushing for immigration enforcement guardrails and oversight provisions. Republicans are advocating for election integrity measures like the SAVE Act.
This is precisely the kind of high-stakes moment when major policy riders get included in spending packages. And that means there’s a real opportunity to push for the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. Our rights do not stop at state borders. If your concealed carry permit is valid in your home state, it should be respected nationwide—just like a driver’s license.
Schumer’s history tells us one thing clearly: he is not a reliable defender of gun rights. His legislative record shows consistent opposition to expanded carry rights and strong support for federal gun control. So, while his recent comment may sound encouraging, gun owners would be wise to remain skeptical. If he believes “shall not be infringed,” then supporting nationwide reciprocity for law-abiding citizens should be an easy vote.
Why Reciprocity Matters
Constitutional rights shouldn’t disappear when you cross a state line
Law-abiding permit holders are among the most vetted citizens in the country
Criminals don’t follow state carry laws—only lawful gun owners do
We have seen individuals get charged for non-criminal acts while traveling with firearms

Reciprocity ensures equal treatment and consistency. It protects responsible Americans from becoming accidental felons simply for traveling. At 2 If By Sea Tactical, Southern Minnesota’s Premiere Indoor Range and Firearms Store, we stand with Gun Owners of America (GOA) in their continued push to get concealed carry reciprocity across the finish line. GOA has fought for years to move this legislation forward. We’ve seen it pass the House before—only to stall in the Senate.
If there’s ever been a moment to apply pressure, this is it. Contact your Senators. Hold them accountable.
