With the opening of our new Indoor Range & Store there have been many questions about the origin of our name and its meaning.  We are fortunate here in America to have been blessed with many freedoms we hold so dear and thank those that have put their lives on the line to defend them.  Our name is deeply rooted in that history.

On April 18th 1775, Two Hundred and Fifty years ago this year Paul Revere rode out on his famed “Midnight Ride” that would be immortalized by Henry Longfellow’s 1860 poem.  The ride would birth one of the greatest nations this world has ever seen.  While Mr. Revere was unaware of what was to come for the future United States, he rode knowing that a break from England most certainly was going to happen.

Our name harkens back to this ride and the many historical instances that would follow from “the shot heard ‘round the world” to Cornwallis’ surrender at Yorktown.  Up until this point in the early history of the 13 Colonies, the grievances that had been made known at the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party were about “taxation without Representation”.

The Colonists were not seeking independence yet.  They still considered themselves British subjects and loyal to the King.  They just were asking for representation in the British Parliament.  That would all change in the spring of 1775.  British General Thomas Gage was presented with secret orders to March on Lexington and Concord, MA and seize all the arms and powder from the colonists to suppress a possible rebellion.  These orders were intercepted and spread to the colonists and militias throughout Massachusetts.  The arms and powder were subsequently moved, and the militias were put on high alert.

Thus, Mr. Revere enters and his band of merry riders.  Given a simple signal by Robert Newman and Captain John pulling they would light one lantern in the Old North Church (then the tallest building in Boston) if the British crossed by land and two if the crossed by sea to march upon Lexington and Concord.  In the evening of April 18th, 1775, two lanterns were hung setting in motion a rebellion that would shock the world and forever alter history.
